The 6-Day Umbwe Route is a challenging Kilimanjaro adventure featuring steep trails, dramatic alpine landscapes, and a rewarding summit of Uhuru Peak. This itinerary combines rugged trekking with carefully planned mountain camps for an unforgettable ascent.
Start from Umbwe Gate and trek through dense montane forest along a steep trail toward Umbwe Camp.
Distance: ~11 km | Time: 5–7 hrs | Elevation: 1,600 m → 2,850 m
Overnight: Umbwe CampDrive to the northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro and begin your trek through farmland and montane forest toward Simba Camp. Enjoy a gentle first day of hiking as you start acclimatizing to the mountain environment.
Climb through the moorland zone toward Barranco Valley, with dramatic views of Kilimanjaro’s southern slopes.

Climb the famous Barranco Wall, then cross ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp.

Trek through alpine desert toward Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit attempt.
