6-Days Rongai Route

Experience Mount Kilimanjaro through the scenic and quieter Rongai Route, approaching the mountain from its northern side. This 6-day adventure combines beautiful alpine landscapes, Mawenzi Peak views, and a rewarding summit climb to Uhuru Peak before descending through the lush Marangu Route.

Day 1: Moshi/Arusha – Rongai Gate – Simba Camp

Drive to the northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro and begin your trek through farmland and montane forest toward Simba Camp. Enjoy a gentle first day of hiking as you start acclimatizing to the mountain environment.

Day 2: Simba Camp – Kikelewa Camp

Continue through the moorland zone with beautiful views across the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro. The trail gradually climbs toward Kikelewa Camp, located beneath the dramatic Mawenzi Peak.

Day 3: Kikelewa Camp – Mawenzi Tarn Camp

A short but steeper climb takes you toward Mawenzi Tarn. Surrounded by spectacular volcanic scenery, this is one of the most scenic sections of the Rongai Route and an important acclimatization day.

Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn – Kibo Hut

Cross the wide Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo through a stark alpine desert landscape. Continue toward Kibo Hut, where you rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 5: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

Begin the summit climb around midnight toward Gilman’s Point and continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m. After celebrating your summit achievement, descend through Kibo to Horombo Hut for overnight.

Day 6: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi/Arusha

Descend through the lush montane forest toward Marangu Gate. After completing the park exit procedures and receiving your summit certificate, transfer back to Moshi or Arusha.
