6-Days Marangu Route
6-Days Rongai Route
6-Days Marangu Route offers a classic Kilimanjaro trekking experience through lush rainforest, alpine moorland, and the high-altitude slopes of Kibo. This carefully paced itinerary gives you time to acclimatize before the challenging summit night and the final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), Africa’s highest point.
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
After registration at Marangu Gate, the trek begins through the lush rainforest of Kilimanjaro. The trail gradually climbs through dense vegetation toward Mandara Hut, where you spend your first night.
Highlights: rainforest, Colobus monkeys, tropical vegetation, Mandara Maundi viewpoint.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Leave the rainforest behind as the landscape opens into the moorland zone. The trail passes through giant heather and alpine vegetation before reaching Horombo Hut, with impressive views toward Mawenzi and Kibo.
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Today you cross the high-altitude Saddle, the broad desert-like area between Mawenzi and Kibo. Vegetation becomes sparse as you approach Kibo Hut at 4,703m.
The afternoon is dedicated to rest and preparation for the summit attempt, which begins around midnight.
Day 4: Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak → Horombo Hut
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Mandara Hut
After breakfast, descend through the moorland and back toward the rainforest. The descent is considerably easier than the summit day, allowing you to recover while enjoying the changing vegetation.
Overnight at Mandara Hut.
Day 6: Mandara Hut to Marangu Gate
Your final morning begins with a descent through the rainforest toward Marangu Gate. Once at the gate, complete the exit formalities and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate if you successfully reached the required summit point.
Transfer onward to Moshi or Arusha.
